about

In its sophomore recording, Grand Rapids stalwart-turned-Brooklyn-transplant M.O.T.H reflects on social and commercial patterns of a changing city. Drawing from firsthand perspectives of shifting demographics in Grand Rapids’ manufacturing district, the hyper-renovated factory town of East Williamsburg, and Hamtramck, a Detroit neighborhood with a long history of coexisting arts and commerce, Westside Industrial is a narrative response to the commodification of culture and the fallout that occurs when lifestyles are turned into brands in order to sell real estate.

Told through handwritten journal entries, voicemail recordings, poetic dialogue and photographic imagery as well as the music itself, Westside Industrial is a tale from the perspective of “him” and “her”, on the protagonist’s gradual disillusionment of realizing that the nonconformist pursuit of a “bohemian” artistic career in a rapidly-gentrifying city is, in reality, a premeditated marketing play in the industry of lifestyle branding.

about

M.O.T.H Brooklyn, New York

These Sounds: As Cyclical Structures and Spectrums in Motion through and within Alignment.
It's about shapes in time growing, spreading and transforming.
It's about color cycles rotating through displaced ratios.
It's about fragile structures oscillating and fading as movement rearranges environment.
It's an exploration into kinesthetic thinking.
